My Journey: Final Report
Introduction
My name is Abraham Cascante, and this is my final report for the WP Credits program. During this project, I contributed to the WordPress Photo Directory by submitting original photographs related to the natural, cultural, and tourist landscapes of Dota, Costa Rica. My project was titled “Dota among mountains, coffee plantations, and trails: a photographic record for the WordPress Photo Directory.” This report summarizes my contributions, the challenges I faced, the skills I developed, and what I learned from this experience.
Teams and Projects I Participated In
I contributed to the WordPress Photos Team through the WordPress Photo Directory. The main goal of my project was to publish original photographs of Dota, including mountains, coffee plantations, trails, viewpoints, and other representative landscapes. Through this contribution, I wanted to show the natural beauty of the area and provide useful visual content that other people can use freely in websites and digital projects.
Challenges and Solutions
One of my first challenges was understanding which photographs met the quality standards of the platform. Some images were not suitable because of their composition, lighting, or visible elements. I solved this problem by reviewing each photograph more carefully before submitting it and paying greater attention to framing, image quality, and visual cleanliness.
Another challenge was writing descriptions in English for every photograph. At first, this was difficult because I needed to describe each image clearly and simply. With practice and revision, I improved my descriptions and became more confident when submitting new photographs.
Here, we can see attempts to upload photos, one of which was rejected and one that was accepted.
My Contributions
During the project, I submitted several original photographs to the WordPress Photo Directory. At present, I have 10 approved photographs showing landscapes, plants, mountains, coffee-growing areas, trails, and other natural places.
These photographs are now part of a global library of freely available images. They can be used by people from different countries in personal, academic, professional, and web projects.

One of the main lessons I learned is that contributing to an open-source community requires patience, responsibility, and continuous improvement. Every photograph must follow specific guidelines before it can be accepted.
I also learned that even a small contribution can be useful to many people. The photographs I submitted can now be downloaded and used by users from different parts of the world. This helped me understand the importance of collaboration within the WordPress community.
Another important lesson was learning from rejected submissions. Instead of seeing rejection as a negative result, I used it to identify mistakes and improve the quality of my future photographs.
New Skills Acquired
Technical skills: Using the WordPress Photo Directory, preparing photographs for publication, checking image quality, writing image descriptions in English, and following submission guidelines.
Photography skills: Improving lighting, composition, framing, image selection, and visual cleanliness.
Soft skills: Patience, time management, attention to detail, consistency, accepting feedback, and improving my work after receiving corrections.
Personal Reflections and Next Steps
What I enjoyed most about this project was seeing my photographs approved and published in the WordPress Photo Directory. It was rewarding to know that images of Dota are now part of a global collection and can be used by other people.
I was surprised by the detailed review process and the importance of following every requirement. This experience helped me become more careful when selecting and preparing photographs.
After completing the WP Credits program, I would like to continue contributing to the WordPress Photo Directory. My next goal is to publish more photographs of Dota, improve their quality, and continue showing the natural and cultural value of the area through photography.
